I was in my early 20s when I attended one of his fabulous parties in the Hollywood Hills, must have been a year or two after Can't Stop the Music. Ann Miller was there and a few other old time celebs, but after 1am most of the heteros left and it was an all male bacchanal. I was so impressed and horrified at the same time.
He was very touchy-feely towards any guy he had the hots for, but I don't think he followed through with any of them. Thankfully I never had to get it up for him as I was a guest of another tv/theater producer. He seemed like an old queen with too much money and caftans, not my type at all.
Anyone have any memories to share from the late 70s or 80s?

I first heard of Alan Carr from one of Dennis Miller’s rants (this one was when he guested on Politically Incorrect) with his random ass pop culture references. Then I did some research on who he was — no wonder he was a DL icon.
They did a Grease: Behind Close Doors on REELZ fairly recently. What a bloated coked up mess he was.

[R17], one of my friends was a producer on that doc. He let me watch a rough cut before it was released, and I remember telling him that Carr didn't seem like the most upstanding guy. I recall a lot of cartoon sequences, and my friend was pretty upset that Ann-Margret wouldn't participate, as she and her husband had been close to Carr for many years.

the Allen Carr doc referred to earlier (Fabulous Allen Carr) has been on Amazon Prime and is loads of fun to watch. As enjoyable - though totally different tone and vibe - as the Scotty Bowers doc. Recommended!

He really got even with Rock Hudson at the end of his life. Allan wanted him for a role in La Cage on broadway. rock expressed interest initially but then got the aids diagnosis and left allan hanging and eventually signed for 10 episodes of Dynasty. He thought he could physically do that but not broadway. He couldnt tell Carr the reason as Carr would have it all over town in 10 minutes. Carr spread the gossip anyway over what he suspected. Carr was not well liked in showbiz circles especially. I imagine he was king of the casting couch for a while. I WILL say Allan Carr had excellent tastes in personal residences/

Watched the documentary last night. Really enjoyed it. He certainly had issues but seemed like a nice guy. It's ironic that after his Oscars' show, the Academy received a letter signed by lots of actors complaining how it was the worst thing ever. I wonder how those still alive feel about it now in the age of dragging in unsuspecting tourists to be treated like peasants.
